I don’t look for the perfect shapes when shopping for gourds, I see a potential in almost every gourd because there is so much you can do as you allow your imagination to be free.” |

Patricia Boyd is a native of Pasadena, California. Her artistic roots travel back to her grandparents, which continued with her mother who is an accomplished artist. It was her mother who provided her with many opportunities for her creativity to find its own path. Her interest in gourds began with her sister who took a class on gourds. After sharing her new craft with Pat, slowly Pat developed a passion for the gourds after taking a trip to Africa. Having a desire to share the images and life seen on the plains of Kenya, the gourds provided an avenue to display this feeling. With the variety of gourds and the natural growth of each piece, this allowed a one of a kind image to be created with each piece. Previous to working with gourds, pat created wearable art using found treasures, jewelry, combined with fabric, wood, bone, buttons, plaster, and metals. She has been able to incorporate it all sculpting unique gourd vessels using their natural shapes. Patricia also has a background in the health field working as a nurse and then as a Physicians Assistant for over 35 years and has recently retired. Using her background in the arts and the human body, Pat has brought her own unique expression of figurative gourd sculptures in the field of art.
